Craft Coffee: A Manual
I had the honor of not only designing and producing this project as I do for most of Agate's books, but also creating the illustrations that are used on the cover and throughout.
I chose Harriet, a friendly serif created by a local Chicago type designer, for the body text. This typeface allowed us to pack the pages pretty tightly, keeping the page count and production costs down without sacrificing ease or approachability.
We had a fun photoshoot of all the devices that needed illustrated for the book. It was important that everything be drawn to scale, so I set up a tripod and we rotated in all the different products and configurations. My cat, Charley, was sure to make it about her—as per usual.
One of the best parts about working for a small press is that I get to design all the supplemental marketing materials for each project—postcards (like this), social media graphics, sell sheets, you name it—and really have control over how each title is presented to the world.
